Good Cop Stories That Will Change Your Mind about Policemen
Police officers may be among the bravest citizens in the United States, but they have a heart of gold. When they’re not catching criminals and restoring law and order, they’re serving the community in several different ways.
Here are a few heartwarming good cop stories you should know about.
Officer Helped Man in Wheelchair Mow His Lawn
Often when they’re on duty and are patrolling the streets, cops will come across people who need their help. This is what happened with Officer Joe Hutson a few years ago when he spotted a man in a wheelchair who was trying (unsuccessfully) to mow his lawn.
Immediately, he arrived at the man’s house and offered to take over the mowing for him. He also sent his partner to pick up the necessary supplies such as a mower, leaf blower, and weed trimmer from the nearest station, and the two then joined forces to help the man’s lawn look neat and tidy.
Cops Bought Parents a Car Seat Instead of Fining Them
Car seat laws vary by state, but most require parents to have one if their child is under the age of three. The state of Michigan falls under this category. A few years ago, someone notified the police force that a woman who had parked her car at a local McDonald’s was holding her baby in her lap, in the absence of a car seat. Since this goes against Michigan law, two officers approached the woman to issue a citation. However, after having talked to her for a few minutes, they did something totally unexpected.
The two officers learned that the woman and her husband were new to town, and didn’t have the financial means to buy a car seat for their baby. They also didn’t have any friends or family in the area they could leave their child with or borrow a seat from. When the policemen heard this story, instead of issuing the woman a ticket they bought a car seat for her out of their own pocket, and installed it in the vehicle so that the family could travel safely.
Officers Surprised an Autistic Boy on His Birthday
Back in 2015, little Glenn Buratti was upset beyond measure on his birthday when none of his fellow kindergartners showed up for his 6th birthday party. His mother Ashlee Buratti took to Facebook to describe the heartbreaking event, writing that none of his 16 classmates had responded to the invite. When her son got to know nobody was coming to celebrate his day, he refused to smile while also trying to hide his crying by pinching his nose.
The Burattis were in for a surprise, as the Facebook post got the attention of Florida’s finest. The Osceola County Sheriff's Department sent a helicopter to circle over the Burattis’ house in celebration. Later that week, police officers and firefighters also made their way to the house to help Glenn continue with his birthday celebrations.
