Get to Know the First Phase of Screening for the New York State Court Officer Exam

Cleared the written exam? Congratulations! You’re now one step closer to your dream of becoming a New York State Court Officer!
The court officer exam is usually the most daunting element of the entire selection process. However, once that’s over, you need to gear up for the physical test immediately.
Candidates who’ve been given appointments via email will be able to participate in this robust test of physical prowess and vision clarity.

If you’re wondering how to prepare for this part of your exam, simply get in touch with Civil Service Success! They specialize in preparing students for various civil service examinations in the State of New York and can guide you on how to improve your chances of getting selected. After all, they’ve been in the business for nearly half a century now!

What to Expect During the Screening Process

FOR THE PHYSICAL ABILITY TEST:

· Wear appropriate clothing that allows you to perform exercises comfortably and don’t restrict your movement. For shoes, sneakers are standard. Don’t wear heels or any platform shoes.
· Make sure to eat a healthy meal and drink plenty of fluids before the test. A one-hour gap between your meal and the test is considered ideal. You should also bring in some snacks to the test center since you’ll be there pretty much the entire day.
· Don’t panic if you’re unable to clear the physical ability test on the first try. You’ll have the chance to retake the exam from the start. You can do this only once but only after completing a 90-day waiting period.

FOR VISION SCREENING:

· You can only participate in the vision test after you’ve cleared the physical ability test.
· All candidates for the New York Court Officer Trainee position will be tested on corrected and non-corrected visual cues.
· If you have prescription glasses or contact lenses, remember to bring them with you to the test. This also applies to those who wear reading glasses.
· Those candidates who wear contact lenses on the regular and are wearing a pair during the test will be asked to remove them during the vision test. Make sure you’re carrying a lens solution and storage case because there won’t be a place for you to keep them during the test.
· If you require corrective vision surgery like Lasik, make sure to have it done well before the exam. You’ll only delay your screening test if you don’t meet the vision clarity standards.

Additional Points To Remember Before Showing Up for The Exam

· All candidates will have to undergo a fingerprint identification process. You’ll have to bring in a  blank money order worth $75 for this.
· Remember to bring valid photo identification with you. This includes your New York State issued driver’s license, ID card or passport. Bring in a photocopy of the same document you’ll be presenting.
· It is mandatory for all candidates to bring in a duly filled Medical Release form. Have it signed and stamped by your medical practitioner. Without this document, you won’t be allowed to take part in the physical ability test.
· As always, be punctual and show up on the stipulated time. Latecomers will not be allowed to enter.
